Protecting Your Business
with Our Test & Tag Program

Testing & tagging is compulsory in Australia to protect your staff and the public and to adhere to strict occupational health and safety guidelines (AS/NZS 3760). The owner or manager of a premises or business has a legal and ethical obligation to your staff and clients to provide regular appliance test and tagging.

OH&S Inspectors are empowered to issue penalty notices and on the spot fines for non-compliance with AS/NZS 3760. Punishment varies between states, however, owners, managers and responsible people can face individual fines of up to $28,500 and/or imprisonment depending on the degree of seriousness.

Electrical Testing and tagging – legal requirements:

An employer must take reasonable care to identify any foreseeable hazard that may arise from the conduct of the employer’s undertaking and that has the potential to harm the health and safety of:

  • Any employee of the employer, or
  • Any other person legally at the employer’s place of work, or both

You are considered the responsible person for appliance test tag if you are:

  • The owner of the premises; or
  • The manager of a business
  • The owner of the electrical equipment; or
  • A person who has a legal responsibility for the safety of electrical equipment within the scope of the Standard AS/NZS 3670:2010

Very timely, easy to do business with, great backup service, competitive pricing.

Will and his team have completely blown us away with their expertise, customer service and response time. We have engaged their services to help us at The Hive Business Space in Maroochydore. We never expected this level of service was even a possibility! Not only did they arrive on time, their knowledge and understanding of our problems was evident within 5 minutes of arriving. Their quote was more than reasonable and the after sales service is the reason that you should choose these guys! If we could give more than 5 stars, we would! Thank you!

My experience with Port City Air Maroochydore was absolutely first class. Started out with Lara who was absolutely amazing to deal with, extremely helpful and bubbly. Will then came to our place to give us a quote and received it that afternoon and organised installation for the same week. The boys who come to install it were super professional and efficient, the workmanship was faultless too. Overall our experience with Port City was unreal. 11/10 guys.

Test & Tag Schedules

The nature of your workplace will determine how often you need to undertake appliance testing and tagging services but you must ensure all plug-in electrical equipment and extension leads be visually inspected regularly for wear and mechanical damage and tested in accordance with AS/NZS 3760 for earth continuity and insulation resistance or leakage current.

As a general rule, an appliance that forms part of a hazardous environment will need to be tested more regularly than one that does not. It is up to the appliance tester to determine where the environment and item should be assessed under the relevant Standards and or Workcover guidelines.

Certificate of Compliance – Reporting Compliance

Appliance Testing & Tagging is more than just placing a sticker on a lead. In addition to the test and tag, you are required to also keep records of inspections, tests and maintenance. This includes a Certificate of Compliance, test results and where applicable, risk assessment reports.

These test and tag reports must be produced within 24 hours of a request being made by an inspector. An inspector will require documentation to show that your site has undergone testing and tagging by a certified company and electrical team, such as Port City Air Conditioning.
